Oscars 2014: 17 Unfair Snubs The Academy Got Completely Wrong

9. Monsters University €“ Best Animated Film

I think most of us will agree that Monsters University wasn't up there with the best of Pixar's lot, but it was a considerable return to form after the failure that was Cars 2 (Pixar's first of two snubs in the last three years), and the mediocre-yet-nominated Brave. Still, it failed to turn up on Oscar's nominations list for Best Animated Film, being beaten to the punch by expected nominees Frozen, The Wind Rises, The Croods, and then the less-certain Despicable Me 2 and Ernest and Celestine. What boggles my mind the most is that the Academy truly appears to believe that The Croods is a superior film to Monsters University, a forgettable, blandly generic animation compared to a witty if slightly disappointing prequel to one of Pixar's most beloved films. It's a no-contest for me, yet the Academy clearly doesn't agree.
