Oscars 2017: Predicting All The Nominees

2. Performance By An Actress In A Leading Role

Oscar Nominations
Summit Entertainment

This may well be the hardest, most stacked category of any this year. Getting it down to five nominees is going to be a tough task in itself, and then we're looking at a real three-horse race for the actual prize.

In terms of nominees, Emma Stone (La La Land), Amy Adams (Arrival), and Natalie Portman (Jackie) are guaranteed noms. What upset things was Isabelle Huppert's surprise win at the Golden Globes, which makes her a much stronger contender for a nod. She's up against strong competition though, with Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins), Ruth Negga (Loving), and Annette Bening (20th Century Women) all in with a chance too.

As for winning the whole thing, Stone gives a beautiful performance in La La Land, but the Academy might feel it's time to give Adams the award (this'll be her 6th nomination in just over a decade!).

Likely Nominees:

Amy Adams (Arrival)

Isabelle Huppert (Elle)

Natalie Portman (Jackie)

Emma Stone (La La Land)

Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins)
