Oscars 2017: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

15. Achievement In Visual Effects

Oscars Casey Affleck Denzel Washington
Disney

Nominees: Deepwater Horizon, Doctor Strange, The Jungle Book, Kubo and the Two Strings, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Who Should Win

The Jungle Book.

This is a really strong category, and you could probably make a case for any of the films here, but the CGI work on Jungle Book is on another level. The way it brings its animals to life, and has them talk and sing, is breathtaking, and it probably deserves it for the texture on Baloo alone.

Who Will Win

The Jungle Book.

Rogue One will probably be overlooked like The Force Awakens was, the Academy often ignores comic book movies, Deepwater Horizon isn't particularly well-loved, and a nomination is enough for Kubo, given it's a rare animated film to feature here. The Jungle Book has exceptional effects, a big box-office, critical acclaim, and the right buzz behind it.
