Oscars 2017: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

21. Best Foreign-Language Film

Oscars Casey Affleck Denzel Washington
NFP Marketing & Distribution

Nominees: Land of Mine, A Man Called Ove, The Salesman, Tanna, Toni Erdmann

Who Should Win

Toni Erdmann.

The outrageous German comedy, which has been wowing critics, also manages to tell a heartfelt story of a father trying to reconnect with his daughter, and how she copes with his antics, all within its rather unique comedic trappings. There's nothing else like it in this field, or anywhere else.

Who Will Win

Toni Erdmann.

The movie has been performing well (if not winning everything) during awards season, and has all the buzz. The only potential spoiler is that it's very long, coming in at a bum-numbing 160 minutes, which might've put voters off watching it all. The Salesman, whose director is boycotting the Oscars due to Trump's Muslim ban, is probably the biggest threat, but this award should be heading to Germany.
