Oscars 2019 Nominations: 13 Biggest Shocks, Snubs & Surprises

Best Editing is often a key category, because the winner of Best Picture generally needs to have a nomination here. It differs in terms of winner more than it used to, be Birdman is the only film this decade to win the top prize without a nomination in this category.

That makes it all the more shocking, then, that A Star Is Born and even more so Roma (which REALLY should've been nominated here, because the way it's stitched together is astonishingly good) have been left out of the category, along with another frontrunner, First Man (which also deserved recognition here).

Both Roma and A Star Is Born had been racking up the nominations for their editing, including by the American Cinema Editors society, which, combined with their frontrunner status in Best Picture, should've led to a nomination here. There's a chance they can still win the top award, especially with the controversy surrounding Green Book, but their chances have just dipped slightly because of being snubbed here.
