Oscars 2020: Predicting All The Nominees
4. Actor In A Leading Role
This year's Best Actor race is one of the most stacked in recent memory, and nailing down a decisive five nominees is incredibly difficult.
Adam Driver and Joaquin Phoenix are the obvious frontrunners, with Phoenix starting to pull ahead of Driver in recent weeks, while Antonio Banderas and Leonardo DiCaprio have also performed well across the circuit so far.
Slot five has a number of possibles - Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari), Robert De Niro (The Irishman), Taron Egerton (Rocketman), and Eddie Murphy (Dolemite is My Name) - though with his recent Golden Globe win, we're going to give it to a thoroughly deserving Egerton.
As the Academy proved last year by going "gaga" for Rami Malek's turn as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, they can't resist musical biopic performances, and Egerton's work was a good deal more persuasive than Malek's, so he should score #5.
Nominees:
Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory)
Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood)
Adam Driver (Marriage Story)
Taron Egerton (Rocketman)
Joaquin Phoenix (Joker)
