There are four locked-in performances here in Davis, Kirby, McDormand, and Mulligan, while Andra Day's late-stage surge also makes her a likely nominee despite the general mediocrity of Lee Daniels' film itself.

If she doesn't make the cut, she'll likely be switched out for Amy Adams (Hillbilly Elegy), because as much as critics and social media users loathe Ron Howard's saccharine drama, it's tracking much stronger with awards bodies (hence Adams' SAG nomination).
