There's absolutely no way that Sorkin or Zhao miss out on Best Director, while Chung and King also feel like sure bets.

The Academy has been historically frosty with Fincher, yet the subject matter may endear him to the Academy for the first time in an entire decade.

If he doesn't get in, he'll likely be beaten by a thoroughly deserving Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman), but don't bet against a surprise passion play for Spike Lee's work on Da 5 Bloods either.
