Oscars 2022: All 20 Actors Who Could Get Their First Oscar Nomination
9. Ciarán Hinds - Belfast
Veteran character actor Ciarán Hinds plays Buddy's grandfather in Belfast - opposite Judi Dench as his wife, who may also be nominated - and has received some of the best reviews of his entire career for his work.
Hinds, who somehow has scarce few awards or nominations to his name over the course of a career spanning more than 30 years and 120 roles, is highly likely to end up a Best Supporting Actor nominee for his warm performance in Branagh's film.
It's a relatively understated performance according to early reviews, though that sort of acting tends to thrive much better in the supporting fields than leading, so it shouldn't trouble his chances.
Best Supporting Actor is also probably the softest of the four acting categories this year, so the chances of Hinds not making the cut are incredibly slim.
