5. Kodi Smit-McPhee - The Power Of The Dog

It feels like Kodi Smit-McPhee has been on the verge of a true breakout role for years now, and that he finally seems to have attained with his turn as Rose's (Kirsten Dunst) introverted son in The Power of the Dog.

Despite the definitely Oscar-bound Benedict Cumberbatch and Dunst being lightning rods for the movie's press attention, 25-year-old Aussie actor Smit-McPhee has also been effusively lauded for his work, particularly in his intense scenes opposite Cumberbatch.

Smit-McPhee isn't quite a sure thing for a Best Supporting Actor nomination but he's pretty close, and with the film hitting Netflix in the near-future, his place will likely be cemented in the months to come.
