Oscars 2014: 10 Hopeful Best Picture Contenders

3. Rush

Chance: An Outside Chance If Nebraska was a safe long shot, than Rush is a little further out in the safe column. Ron Howard is no stranger to awards attention, and Chris Hemsworth is a hot enough ticket to keep the film in the eye of the voters. However, the voters tend to take popular appeal into consideration, as well as actual merit. That being said, Rush lived up to its name with its rather quick theatrical release and very little fanfare was made about it when it was in theaters. The awards buzz for this film, pre Globe nominations, was little to none. Just like Nebraska though, Rush has managed to make a better impression on voters than on viewers. Best Picture seems like a little bit of a stretch, but Best Adapted Screenplay is more likely to be a given as Peter Morgan's last collaboration with Howard, 2008's Frost/Nixon also netted him a nomination in the same category.
