Paul Walker: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Raw Dog €“ Pawn Shop Chronicles (2013)

No, you can't blame someone for wanting to do something new, but you can when that €œsomething new€ in question winds up being total garbage. That's very much the case with Pawnshop Chronicles, which saw Walker re-teaming with Running Scared director Wayne Kramer for a very different kind of movie. Instead of a gonzo crime thriller it's a gonzo caper-comedy, but without any of the unique filmmaking or inventive structure of their first collaboration. Instead, Pawn Shop Chronicles trades on the laziest of lazy comedy stereotypes. Walker is just part of an all-star cast, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Elijah Wood, Matt Dillon, Vincent D'Onofrio, Academy Award-winning George Of The Jungle star Brendan Fraser and Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead. But all of that acting prowess doesn't mean squat if the script sucks. And boy, does the script €“ and everything else about Pawn Shop Chronicles €“ suck. A €œ hillbilly grindhouse yawp of a movie that belches in your face and leaves a sour stink€ according to one reviewer, the film is an unfunny mess, with politically incorrect humour that's more just offensive than boundary-pushing, Walker's Raw Dog never making it past the barest sketch of a Dukes Of Hazard supporting character.
