If the release of 2017's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle taught us anything, it's that there's no such thing as a guarantee at the box office.

Despite most expecting the adventure comedy to have its lunch eaten by Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the film grossed a scarcely believable $962.1 million worldwide.

Refusing to tinker with a broken formula, Sony is releasing Jumanji 3 within days of Star Wars: Episode IX, and is no doubt expecting a similarly strong Christmas time performance.

Sony may be hoping for a billion-dollar payday here, but the gut feeling is that Jumanji won't quite reach the same surprising high as its predecessor.

It'll still be a mammoth success internationally, but with a not-insignificant drop of about $100 million from its predecessor.
