Predicting Box-Office Of Every Disney 2019 Movie
6. Aladdin - $875m
Release Date: May 24
Another live-action 'reimagining', which is going to mean another few hundred million dollars in the Disney coffers. Aladdin is right in the sweet spot for a remake, with it being one of their most beloved classics and hailing from its best period - its release was sandwiched between Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.
Will Smith isn't quite the draw he used to be, and it'll be difficult to live up to Robin Williams, but he's still a big, popular name, and we can expect the marketing to focus heavily on him once it gets into full swing (there's only been one teaser so far). That, combined with the songs and sense of nostalgia, should help this make bank.
The other negative is that this is Guy Ritchie, who's never been a major box-office player and whose last blockbuster bombed. It's also releasing in a crowded marketplace of films that will draw at least some eyes away from it: Godzilla: King of Monsters and Rocketman open a week later, followed by X-Men: Dark Phoenix and then the Men in Black spin-off.
Considering The Jungle Book raked in $966m though, and this is in a similar bracket in terms of status, then those films are simply standing in its way of the $1bn barrier, rather than preventing it from being a hit.
