Predicting The Next 10 Movies That Will Make Over $1 Billion

5. Captain America: Civil War

If Batman V Superman can be a likely billion-dollar-hitter, then why wouldn't Captain America V Iron Man also be? Five years ago the popular opinion of Captain America was that he was a patriotic boy scout, and a rather boring one at that. The First Avenger and The Avengers showed otherwise, with the name turned into an almost ironic title (Iron Man was always the more political character, after all) and Steve Rogers revealed as an instantly relatable superhero character in the vein of Peter Parker, with the added tragedy of being thrown out of time. This year's The Winter Soldier only furthered that distinction, delivering the best stand-alone movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Winter Soldier made over $700 million worldwide, but that requires a pretty big leap to make it to the magic billion. However, Civil War has more than enough to make that jump. The almost-certain phenomenal success of Age Of Ultron, whose events tie directly into the Cap threequel, will gift any Marvel movie an extra layer of hype, and with the film bringing together many of the series' overarching characters into the events (both Iron Man and Black Panther are guaranteed to appear, and don't expect Black Widow and Nick Fury to be far away), this is essentially an Avengers 2.5. The size of the success of the other Marvel Phase 3 movies is uncertain, but for any of them (even Guardians Of The Galaxy 2) to make quite as much is unlikely.
