Predicting The Next 10 Movies That Will Make Over $1 Billion

4. Avatar 2

It's five years since Avatar stomped its way to become the highest grossing film of all time, and in that half-a-decade since the wave of hype that saw fans contemplating suicide because they'd never get to visit the film's alien planet Pandora seems a bit strange. The movie's still a fine example of blockbuster cinema, but the excitement for the sequel, which is being shot back-to-back-to-back with Avatar 3 and 4, is tepid at best. Still, it'd be naive to think that Avatar 2 won't make an absolute killing at the box office. The movie is still penned in for a 2016 release (although a slow production is making that seem unlikely) and by then the first will have such a nostalgic air it'll bring much of the original audience back. This is, after all, James Cameron working with the utmost creative freedom; that spawns some incredible moments, even if the film overall isn't as top-notch as when he has to creatively deal with restrictions. It's not going to be regarded as much of a must-see as the original - the CGI environments and 3D that so captivated mainstream audiences in 2009 are now much more common features - so don't be surprised if it doesn't reach that $2 billion mark, but it'll still sit as one of the biggest movies ever made.
