Plenty of people have been speculating for a long time that 2015 was set to be the biggest year ever at the box office, and so far the year's blockbusters haven't disappointed. We've only just crossed the halfway point of the year and three movies have already crossed the coveted billion dollar mark, with at least one more guaranteed to join them in the near future.

In fact, along with Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron, by the time Jurassic World finishes its record-breaking theatrical run and Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits in December, there is more than a fair chance that 2015 will deliver no less than four of the seven highest-grossing movies of all time.

Given the unprecedented success of the year's biggest hits so far, it's easy to forget that we're still right in the middle of blockbuster season with plenty of big-budget movies still to come, all vying for the audience's hard-earned cash. With that in mind, this article will cast its eye to the future, utilizing nothing but speculation and guesswork in an attempt to predict the ten biggest box office hits of 2015 that are still awaiting release.

Despite the quality of his recent output ranging from the painfully mediocre to the outright terrible, Adam Sandler remains a box office draw, with one of the most consistent track records of commercial success in the entire industry. For the first time ever, cinema's biggest man-child takes the lead role in an effects-heavy blockbuster, one that could turn out to be the biggest hit of his entire career.

Since 1998, Sandler has had no less than fourteen of his movies earn over $100m at the box office, so it seems a relatively safe bet that Pixels will also reach that milestone. The movie's high-concept pitch should also broaden the appeal with international audiences, thanks to a simple hook and a marketing campaign that has attempted to paint the project as Ghostbusters for the video game generation.

With a safe pair of hands behind the camera in Chris Columbus, Sandler's proven drawing power at the domestic box office, a solid supporting cast and an interesting premise, Pixels look all set to easily eclipse Grown Ups 2's $247m to become the actor's highest-grossing live action vehicle to date.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
