Predicting The 10 Highest Box Office Of 2015's Remaining Movies
3. Minions - $950m
Although Steve Carell's Gru is the lead character, the Minions quickly became the main selling point of the Despicable Me series. Since the first movie's release in 2010, the little yellow henchman have infiltrated popular culture, culminating in their own spin-off movie that is set to be the go-to option for family audiences for the rest of the summer.
The first Despicable Me showed great legs at the box office, surprising many when it went on to earn $543.1m. Thanks in no small part to the popularity of the Minions, the sequel would significantly out-gross its predecessor with an incredible $970.7m. With little to no competition at the multiplex, the adventures of Kevin, Bob and Stuart look all set to become the biggest animated movie of the year.
With Inside Out three weeks into its theatrical run and no major family movies set for release in the near future, Minions is guaranteed to be a massive box office success. While the spin-off treatment failed to see Penguins of Madagascar match the numbers of the main Madagascar series, the incredible popularity of the Minions will see the movie at least come close to troubling the final gross of Despicable Me 2.
