Predicting The 8 Biggest Film Trends Of 2016

7. A New Take On Superheroes

Potentially Seen In: Midnight Special, Deadpool, Suicide Squad Few might have guessed just how completely superhero movies have taken over the box office over the last decade. There will be no less than eight blockbuster superhero films released in 2016 and thus the potential for comic book movie fatigue looms large. Thankfully, rather than just churning out superhero action movies until people stop coming, the studios are wisely trying to offer some counter-programming. They€™re still using the concept of superheroes, but in a new way that hasn€™t been seen before. Positive reactions are already pouring in for the fourth-wall breaking, vulgar oddball Deadpool and if the box office is strong enough, it could mean for a whole slew of R-rated superhero movies. Likewise, Suicide Squad is turning the traditional superhero movie on its head by focusing on the villains and making them the stars. Finally, there's Midnight Special, a smaller film which looks to investigate the horrors and dangers of a child gaining powers in a real world setting. All of these films sound promising, and if they should succeed, their diversity could help the genre survive for years to come.
