Prometheus: 20 Blunders That Ruined The Film

15: David's Motives

David's motives throughout the film are all over the place. Fassbender's acting was fine, it was just his character that hadn't been thought through properly. Is he good, is he bad or something in between? We don't know. He starts the film tapping into the crews dreams which could be considered an invasion of privacy. He appears to show more concern for the crew than the captain does. He sneaks on board a deadly substance and uses it to infect Holloway. During the climax he warns Shaw that the Engineer is coming to find her. He's all over the place. People say that is what makes him interesting. But his character hasn't been designed like that, it's because the people writing the film have no idea. When he was needed to set another event in motion, they wrote lines to make it happen with any thought about character.
