RottenTomatoes Score: 29% (4.3/10) Box Office: The Longest Ride had the misfortune of hitting cinemas in the shadow of both Furious 7 and Home, which summarily annihilated it. Though the movie is budgeted at just $34 million, it's only pulled in $31.6 million after two weeks on release. It'll scrape its budget back when it's all said and done, but this is the second consecutive Nicholas Sparks adaptation to fail at the box office: could his reign be over? The Verdict: To its credit, The Longest Ride is one of the less-insufferable Sparks movies out there: it's got two likeable lead actors. there's not much in the way of overwrought, emotionally manipulative plot twists (at least for the standards of these films), and it knows exactly what it is. That said, it's still sappy as hell, the dialogue is often terrible, and the 128 minute run-time borders on oppressive. Unless you're one of the Sparks devoted, don't put yourself through it.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
