Ranking December 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

13. Concussion

RottenTomatoes Score: 62% (6.2) Box Office: Such an anti-NFL movie was never going to make the big bucks, but it opened ever-so-slightly above projections and has made just over half its $35 million budget back to date. If the film overall were better and courted stronger Oscar buzz, then it certainly would be performing better. It will likely make all or most of its budget back before its box office run is over, but it's hard to call it successful. Verdict: Concussion overcomes its fairly template-driven nature (including a totally superfluous romantic plot) to deliver a damning indictment of the NFL and their efforts to downplay the effect of repeated concussions on its players. Will Smith gives one of his best-ever performances as the doctor who blows the lid off the epidemic causing murder and suicide in former players, and though much has been made of how the movie was sanitised to avoid offending the NFL too much, it still seems pretty damn acidic in its accusations. An important movie, and though not reaching the highest potential of its power, a solid effort all the same.
