RottenTomatoes Score: 87% (7.8) Box Office: Impressively budgeted at just $28 million despite the all-star cast, The Big Short comes into profitability just as 2016 begins. As it releases in Europe and beyond throughout January, it should prove to be a minor success when it's all said and done. Verdict: Anchorman (Adam McKay) surprised everyone with this legitimately brilliant run-down of the 2007-2010 financial crisis, roping in a game ensemble cast for arguably the best film yet made about the meltdown. One part an outrageous, free-wheeling comedy, one part a dense, number-crunching drama and one part a tragic horror film, The Big Short explains the complexities of the crisis in layman's terms but refuses to downplay the heady ideas at the forefront. It's a righteously angry film that just about any viewer who isn't a banker can get behind, because of course, it's the taxpayer who ended up footing the fraudulent bankers' bills.
