RottenTomatoes Score: 94% (8.2) Box Office: The Force Awakens has, of course, been a box office juggernaut, and became the fastest film to ever gross $1 billion, doing so after just 12 days, one day faster than this summer's Jurassic World. Estimates of the movie's final box office tally vary wildly, largely from $1.7 billion to upwards of $3 billion (which seems just absurd). We'll have to wait and see, but the gravy train won't be running dry anytime soon. Verdict: Though it's arguably a little too indebted to A New Hope, the long-awaited seventh Star Wars installment destroys those cobweb-ridden memories of George Lucas' risible prequels, serving up possibly the series' funniest entry yet, while introducing fans to a splendid new cast of heroes. It plays things a little safe, yes, but it lays down a firm foundation for the future, and that's the important thing. If Episode VIII isn't a little more ambitious then history may not remember The Force Awakens quite so fondly, but as an energetic, gorgeously directed and thoroughly enjoyable blockbuster, there are few better this year (save for Mad Max: Fury Road, of course).
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
