RottenTomatoes Score: 43% (5.5) Box Office: This $100 million epic grossed just $11.1 million in its opening weekend, far below expectations, and after close to a month on release, it still hasn't broken even. It's a flop. Verdict: Sold as an epic sea-faring spectacle yet ultimately proving just how beholden to his material director Ron Howard is, his latest film has moments of sweeping beauty, but for the most part is content to trundle through dull dialogues and set-pieces full of unremarkable CGI. Blame the marketing in part: the film was sold as a man vs. whale battle to the death, but the Moby Dick aspect is only a small portion, meaning you have to spend more time than is recommended for anyone listening to Chris Hemsworth's hilariously unconvincing Bostonian accent. Expect nobody to remember this one in a few short months.
