Ranking Every DC Comic Book Movie From Worst To Best

14. Swamp Thing

DC Movies
Embassy Pictures

If you look closely at Swamp Thing, you can pretty much see that Louis Letterier's The Incredible Hulk is a massive shameless rip-off of it. A scientist accidentally transforms himself into a creature (okay so this happened before TIH), and ends up battling another monstrously empowered enemy who sought the "formula" for his own nefarious ends.

But Swamp Thing is actually better than that Marvel mess. It helps that it was written and directed by the wonderful Wes Craven, who brought horror sensibilities and the perfect eye for cult characterisation. It's fun, it has some of the darkness of the comics and it never goes quite as far as its sequel in showing disdain for the material.

The best thing you can really say about Swamp Thing is that despite the low production costs and the decided B-movie flavour, it never feels like a silly man-in-a-rubber-suit flick. And it definitely deserves another look.
