Ranking Every Disney Princess From Worst To Best
8. Ariel - The Little Mermaid
Okay, lower your torches and pitchforks for a second and hear me out.
Yes, The Little Mermaid is one of Disney's best movies. Yes, Ariel is iconic, she has amazing songs, she's determined to earn her happiness by any means necessary, she has a rich appreciation for life on the shore, and her love story with Eric (while shallow at the outset) is one of the more well-developed of any Disney movie.
But the thing is, she doesn't really learn anything throughout the story.
See, while she is inspired to pursue a more satisfying life for herself, she just sort of whines and complains about it and then gets everything she wants in the end. Despite being the impetus for most of the movie's conflicts, she's gifted with a happy ending that she didn't really do anything significant to earn. Sure, it is impressive that she made Eric fall in love with her without the use of speech, but let's be honest: her beauty had him hooked from the beginning.
She didn't work her a** off like Cinderella, she wasn't forced into recluse like Rapunzel; she was just a mermaid who didn't want to be a mermaid anymore, and so she wasn't.
