Ranking Every Jack Ryan Film Worst To Best
3. Patriot Games
After Alec Baldwin's contentious departure from the role, the studio lucked out in a big way when Harrison Ford agreed to step in as Jack Ryan for Patriot Games, which marked a tonal shift for both the character and the nascent franchise as it played to Ford's strengths as the family man faced with a desperate race against time.
The latest entry in the 'Harrison Ford: My Wife/My Family' subgenre, Patriot Games discarded the cat-and-mouse antics of The Hunt for Red October in favor of a more straightforward Hollywood thriller, anchored by another sterling effort in the leading man's back catalogue of put-upon good guys trying to do the right thing in the midst of extraordinary circumstances.
Despite the many questionable accents on display, Sean Bean gives good snarl as the villain of the piece, and audiences were more than ready to see him get his comeuppance by the climax of the third act's tension-fueled home invasion/boat chase extended action scene.
