Ranking Freddy Krueger's Deaths Worst To Best

1. Our First Win - A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

Freddy Krueger On Fire
New Line Cinema

It might be totally predictable, but our top pick for the ultimate Freddy Krueger death has to be our very first victory all the way back in 1984. Looking back, it's really hard to overstate the impact Wes Craven's original story had on the horror genre as a whole; the tale of a child killer returning to extract his revenge through our dreams was terrifying for audiences at the time and led to some truly chilling scares that remain impressive even today.

As our lead girl Nancy Thompson uncovers more and more of Krueger's backstory, it becomes clearer that Freddy feeds off of his victim's fears. As Nancy lays more and more Home Alone-esque traps around her Elm Street house in her final stand-off, the initial terror enjoyed by Freddy throughout the film slowly gives way to a more determined feeling for Nancy.

The determination to pull Freddy out of the dream world, run him ragged around the house and finally set him alight in a basement would be enough to mark out Nancy as one of horror's best ever final girls.

Nancy's final moment of brilliance comes right as she works out that she can beat Krueger through simply ignoring him. In what has to be one of film's most rewarding moments, Nancy turns her back on Freddy and listens on as he finally disappears around her. It's a truly great moment and caps off a near-perfect finale, even if it is slightly undone by that infamous ending...
