Ranking Jean-Claude Van Damme's Boss Fights

12. Desert Heat

Van Damme's Role: Eddie Lomax, a veteran soldier with nothing left to live for, wanders the desert until some jerks steal his motorcycle and he develops a sudden, unexplainable thirst for vengeance.

The Bad Guy: Almost nonexistent, quite frankly. Buck (Brett Harrelson) speaks and acts like a cartoon's representation of rabies. His fighting style is the what happens when you lock a person in a dark room and force them to watch the same episode of Renegade over and over again. He is basically just a cowboy hat who can kick above his chest.

The Fight in a Nutshell: Desert Heat wanted to be a true action-comedy, but isn't sure where the humour should come from. That shows in the final fight, when Lomax's new friend Mr. Early (Pat Morita), dressed in a pristine white cowboy outfit, runs through the middle of the action sequence to ring a giant bell. Why does he ring the bell? It certainly doesn't change the momentum of the fight in any meaningful way. It's not a distraction, or a call for help, or an inspirational moment. It's just a random Monty Python-esque bit of nonsense thrown into the middle of a generic fight sequence.
