Rotten Tomatoes Score: 26% (4.7/10) Box Office: Terminator Genisys has only just crossed the $300 million mark after a month on release, making it the lowest-grossing Terminator movie at the American box office (and the lowest-grossing worldwide since the pre-franchise original). Costing a pricey $155 million, those much-discussed fifth and sixth films look a lot less likely. The Verdict: A bold attempt to reinvent the Terminator franchise that flat-out doesn't work, Terminator Genisys will anger fans who love the earlier movies (especially the first two), but is so wildly convoluted that newcomers haven't got a chance of accepting this new movie as a semi-reboot that stands alone. Time travel logic here is virtually non-existent (one character pretty much says, "deal with it"), the ballsy twist was ruined by the marketing team, the film is blandly shot, the action is forgettable, and both Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney are miscast in their respective roles as Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. There's too much goofy comedy, and simply, it makes Terminator Salvation (the prior franchise low-point) look significantly more impressive by comparison. If this kills the franchise outright, it'll be something of a mercy by this point, even if Arnie still seems game for a few more rounds.
