Ranking July 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
11. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
RottenTomatoes Score: 87% (6.9/10)
Box Office: Smartly produced for a modest $38 million, the animated adaptation of Dav Pilkey's children's novels has just barely doubled its budget, but with its unassuming marketing campaign and more niche audience, it'll do just fine once home video sales are factored in.
Verdict: Thanks to Nicholas Stoller's knowingly meta script, Captain Underpants manages to combine silly toilet humour with clever gags for the adults, resulting in a visually stunning, thoroughly charming animation that moves fast and doesn't outstay its welcome by even a second.
Sometimes you just want to watch a movie with a bad guy called Professor Poopypants, right? More of this unbridled silliness, please.
