Ranking March 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
7. Kong: Skull Island
RottenTomatoes Score: 78% (6.6/10)
Box Office: Kong continues to reign supreme, pulling in a better-than-expected $61 million in its opening weekend, and now closing in on the $500 million mark worldwide, largely thanks to the ever-lucrative Chinese market.
Verdict: Though Kong's new outing fails to live up to its incredible potential, it brings the iconic monster back to screens in suitably bombastic style, with a wealth of barmy action...even if most of the humans are cardboard cutouts.
Some dodgy vaseline-smeared CGI aside, Kong himself looks fantastic, and John C. Reilly is an absolute hoot as the only actual character in the movie with a discernible arc (that has a surprisingly emotional payoff no less).
As the stop-gap movie we apparently need before Godzilla vs. Kong and as a silly B-movie in its own right, it sure enough does the job.
