Ranking March 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

4. Burning Sands

Burning Sands
Netflix

RottenTomatoes Score: 84% (7.1/10)

Box Office: Straight to Netflix.

Verdict: A devastatingly intimate look at the hazing rituals that dominate fraternity culture, Burning Sands may not offer much in terms of narrative surprise, but it is a bracingly effective, in-the-trenches docudrama with a litany of terrific performances (including Moonlight's Trevante Rhodes).

Aside from an occasional lurch into heavy-handed territory, there's a deeply felt and truly horrifying message at the film's core, one that American society desperately needs to tackle head-on sooner rather than later. Another smart pick-up for Netflix, and hopefully a sign that more socially conscious drama is on the way from the streaming giant.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
