Ranking March 2019's Movies From Worst To Best
16. Dumbo
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 50% (5.6/10)
Box Office: Tim Burton's $170 million live-action Disney blockbuster stumbled out of the gate, owing to mixed reviews, the age of the original 1941 film and a crowded blockbuster landscape.
Despite topping the box office in its opening weekend, Dumbo released below expectations across the globe, landing a $116 million first weekend.
It'll certainly do well enough to double its budget and turn a profit, but it'll also be far from the smash hit Disney was counting on.
Verdict: Unquestionably failing to live up to its mighty potential but nailing its adorable title character and impressively expanding the story beyond its original confines, Tim Burton's Dumbo is decent enough if certainly underwhelming.
Burton's hit-and-miss direction and Ehren Kruger's middling script work against the impressive technicals and solid performances from Danny DeVito and Eva Green, marking a rare divisive effort for Disney's live-action remakes to date.
