Ranking May 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
9. High-Rise
RottenTomatoes Score: 63% (6.5/10)
Box Office: Budget estimates read anywhere from $5-20 million, but with a current box office total of $3.88 million, it'll have to hope for bigger success on VOD and home video.
Verdict: Ben Wheatley takes an ambitious step forward with this adaptation of J.G. Ballard's novel, which while about as uneven as you would expect, is propelled by a terrific lead performance from Tom Hiddleston, not to mention fine support from Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elizabeth Moss and Jeremy Irons to name but a few.
Is it a bit of slog on occasion? Sure. And does Wheatley seem like he's playing things willfully obtuse at times? Absolutely, but still, this is nothing if not a singular, jaw-dropping vision with tremendous production design and mastery of tone.
