12. War On Everyone
RottenTomatoes Score: 65% (5.6/10)
Box Office: Having been solely released in the UK and Ireland so far, the buddy cop comedy has grossed just $474,654. Budgetary information isn't available, though going by director John Michael McDonagh's previous budgets, it's probably around the $7 million mark. Simply, nobody's getting rich off this one.
Verdict: McDonagh's (The Guard, Calvary) latest may not represent his finest work to date, but thanks to hilariously up-for-it performances from Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña as two corrupt cops with zero f***s to give, this is another grimly funny effort from the prickly writer-director.
The plot is total nonsense but the characters that inhabit this world nevertheless lend it much flavour, and as both a love letter to and send-up of the buddy cop film, it's a lot of fun even if it doesn't necessarily leave a massive lasting impression.
