Ranking The Best Characters From Snatch - 20 Years Later
3. Turkish
Who: Jason Statham's savvy but frequently exasperated boxing promoter, and the film's narrator.
What he knows about diamonds: as he answers in the film's opening lines, he's just a boxing promoter. Diamonds? "Don't they come from Antwerp?"
So named after a plane crash, Turkish has to navigate peril from the second he sends his business partner Tommy to buy a new caravan from a site of Irish Travellers. The events that unfold have the unfortunate consequences of landing them both in the debt of the notorious crime lord Brick Top. As Turkish notes, this is the last place he wants to be. It'll take some quick-thinking, as well as the luck of the Irish, to get them out.
Though usually agitated by the subpar calibre of crewmen he has to work with, Turkish is not afraid to stand up for them, for his business, or for himself - even in the face of the city's most ruthless villains. The streetwise Londoner guides his team through their sticky situation as best as he can.
It's for this, perhaps, that he and Tommy are ultimately rewarded with the priceless diamond at the centre of the plot.
Best quote: When asking his humble company chef Charlie how some sausages are coming along, he is made incredulous by the apparent cooking time of five more minutes. "It was two minutes five minutes ago!"
