1. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Whether or not Marvel and Disney decided to air a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the big game, everyone already knows it is coming out this summer, and it will be a huge hit. But the studio is confident enough to know that a good Super Bowl spot could push that over the edge. There is a chance the film could reach the $1 billion mark, and this trailer might have been the push the film needed.
Set to Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, it feels like just another trailer whilst also managing to evoke excitement for the upcoming sequel. It treats the Super Bowl slot as a chance to introduce fans of the original- and those who have yet to be won over - to the all-new team of characters.
Featuring the trademark humour and vibrant visuals that helped make the original such a success, the trailer succeeds because it doesn't just feel like more of the same. It has the same sense of fun, but also feels like an extension of the world established in the first film.
It was the best trailer of the Super Bowl for its editing, use of music, working as a trailer whilst also working as a Super Bowl trailer, a very distinct type of preview. Not that it needed one, but fans are glad the Guardians showed up for the Big Game.
