Ranking The World's Highest Paid Actresses By Their Debut Film Roles

3. Cate Blanchett - Paradise Road (1997)

Cate Blanchett has a claim as the best actress of this generation and Paradise Road is not a bad career starting point. The film focuses on the lives of an ensemble of women captured by the Japanese during WWII and the subsequent vocal choir they join.

On paper it's a story that translates well to film and it's creators and talent clearly put in the research to make sure the subject was handled with accuracy, however the drama is laid on so thick that it’s often hard to find something true and exciting to grasp onto.

Despite this, there are many great moments. The cast of women involved have a rapport that enhances the emotional connection between eachother and the audience, and the moments of the choir singing together rally up a hundred lifetimes of feeling.
