Ranking What Was Really The Best Horror Movie Every Year 1990-2021
10. 2012: The Cabin In The Woods
Drew Goddard's meta comedy-horror The Cabin in the Woods takes every trope in the playbook and turns them on their head. The entire film is pretty much just one big plot twist.
Following a group of friends as they venture into the woods, the film slowly reveals they're all trapped in an experiment used to keep the world from ending.
With zombies, haunted books and a killer mermaid, it's twistedly funny, ultra-violent, and gloriously self-aware, being a great horror flick in its own right, but also a refreshing take on the genre's biggest clichés, with an all-timer of an ending.
