8. The Coffee Table

There are plenty of grim films on this list, but there's nothing quite like The Coffee Table, which just might be the feel-bad horror film of the decade - or really any decade, honestly.

Without spoiling too much, this is a dark, very dark horror-comedy about basically the worst possible thing that could ever befall either a parent or the owner of a coffee table.

The result is a film so excruciatingly cruel and mean that you'll probably have to finish watching it through splayed fingers.

To say that its protagonist Jesús (David Pareja) is put through the wringer is quite the understatement, filmmaker Caye Casas continually ratcheting up both the tension and absurdity to eventually near-unbearable levels.

You'll likely leave the film with tremendous respect for the cast and crew for managing to pull off such a tricky premise, but you'll also surely never want to think about it, let alone watch it, ever again.
