13. Shelby Oaks
Not unlike fellow YouTuber Markiplier's Iron Lung, there were many who wanted to head out and support film critic Chris Stuckmann's feature debut, Shelby Oaks.
And there was certainly much pre-release hype about the film, which intriguingly adopts a hybrid of found footage and conventional narrative filmmaking as a woman (Camille Sullivan) investigates the disappearance of her sister.
Yet following a buzzy festival run, the general audience response was decidedly more mixed when Shelby Oaks finally hit cinemas last Halloween.
This largely stemmed from two factors - disappointment that Stuckmann's ultra-atmospheric found footage segment fizzles away after the first act, and a deeply mean-spirited bummer of an ending which many felt threw the remaining vibes off entirely.
It's certainly neat that Stuckmann, a passionate champion of genre cinema if there ever was one, got to leverage his platform to produce his own film, but for many the creative missteps make it a one-off curio.
