The single worst aspect of the entire movie is its portrayal of fan favourite cop Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia).

While bigots couldn't stop complaining about Leon being "race-swapped," they really should've been far more concerned about whether or not actor Avan Jogia could capture the essence of the character.

And sadly, more due to the script than his performance - neither of which are admittedly very good - the film fails Leon more than it does any other character.

Though the Resident Evil 2 game certainly presented Leon as a wet-around-the-ears rookie cop, here he's elevated to an actual incompetent who is genuinely difficult to root for.

In this movie Leon is a drunk loser who shot his partner in the a** (really) and had to be bailed out by his father, who is a big shot in the police force.

Given that Leon is basically a punchline throughout the film, being regularly mocked by Chief Irons (Donal Logue), one gets the sense that writer Roberts isn't much of a Leon fan.

Even so, he should respect that he's one of the series' most popular characters with fans, yet apparently sees nothing wrong with turning him into an offputting goof who gets just a single good heroic moment near the end of the movie. Sacrilege.
