Roger Ebert Reveals His Top 20 Films Of 2011

He names the Iranian drama film A Separation as his favourite with Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2 sneaking on his list.

Roger Ebert has turned in his annual personal list of top 20 films of the year, naming the Iranian drama film A Separation as his favourite (or his favourite in 'approximate preference' as he doesn't like to write lists). The film doesn't open begin its limited run in US cinema's until the every end of the year but it has already unspooled over here and we gave the movie a very positive FIVE STAR review at the Berlin Film Festival where it won the Golden Bear. Ebert's favourite American film is Shame, which comes in at two though he does say "Steve McQueen's merciless film about sex addiction" is not one he would want to see twice. Veterans Terrence Malick and Martin Scorsese have the third and fourth spots respectively with The Tree of Life and Hugo. Another Earth He also gives special mention to; "13 Assassins," "Another Earth," "Beginners," "Boy Wonder," "Certified Copy," "The Future," "The Guard," "Higher Ground," "I Will Follow," "J Edgar," "The Last Rites of Joe May," ":Le Quattro Volte," "Margin Call" "Meek's Cutoff," "Moneyball," "Mysteries of Lisbon," "My Week with Marilyn," "The Princess of Montpensier," "Rango," "A Screaming Man," "Silent Souls," "Tyrannosaur," "Queen to Play," "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," and "The Whistleblower." But doesn't give any mention to George Clooney's The Ides of March which is now sneaking in as an Oscar challenger after it's Golden Globes nomination recognition yesterday.
