Rogue One: 8 Ways It Could Enhance The Star Wars Mythology

3. A Jedi-Less Installment Widens The Playing Field

In every Star Wars movie to date, the Jedi have played a huge part in the unfolding narrative; the main character of each movie has always been a Jedi (or in training to become one, whether they know it or not).

While this has provided audiences with lots of cool Jedi-based moments and pretty lightsaber fights, it's also given them a rather one-dimensional look at everybody's favourite galaxy far, far away. The seven instalments of the saga have pretty much conveyed that everything that happens in the universe is a consequence - or is linked to - the Jedi getting involved. But given how huge and sprawling the stage actually is, we all known that such a thing can't possibly be true.

It's Rogue One, then, a film that will reportedly feature zero Jedi, which will show that not everything which happens in the galaxy is linked to the Jedi's involvement; that the Skywalker clan don't have dibs on saving the day or setting important plot points in motion. Which, in turn, widens the playing field and changes the mythology for the better. The message? That Jedi aren't the only ones who can influence the galaxy.
