Scream: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Ghostface
5. Ghostface’s Mask Isn't Just Based On What You Think It Is
Some of the greatest creations of all time have pulled inspiration from all corners of the popular culture spectrum, including in horror movies. After all, one of the most famous horror masks of all time - that of Michael Myers - was actually just a repurposed William Shatner one.
The inspiration for Ghostface's mask was actually a mix. As well as being pretty much stolen (borrowed) from a local costume shop down the road, there was actually several pieces of popular culture which influenced and ultimately defined its final look.
The most obvious reference is, of course, Edvard Munch's The Scream but the album cover for Pink Floyd’s The Wall also played into designer Brigitte Sleiertin’s final design of the mask. Oddly, even 1930’s pin-up favourite Betty Boop also gets a mention as ghostly characters from her cartoon also inspired this terrifying killer's look.
