10. Henrich's Death - Frankenstein
Though Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is the filmmaker's long-gestating passion project, it's far from rigidly faithful to Mary Shelley's source text, introducing numerous characters who weren't present in the novel.
First and foremost there's Henrich Harlander (Christoph Waltz), a wealthy arms manufacturer who bankrolls Victor's (Oscar Isaac) macabre experiments.
Given his lack of presence in the novel, all bets were off on his fate, though few likely expected him to meet such a sharp and nasty end.
No, Henrich isn't killed by Frankenstein's monster (Jacob Elordi), but rather he perishes following an argument with Victor where he attempts to sabotage the reanimation of Victor's creature.
During the scuffle, Henrich ends up falling down the middle of Victor's towering lab, and when Victor runs downstairs to check on him, he finds Henrich dead with the back of his skull totally destroyed by the impact of the fall.
For added gross-out factor, some of Henrich's brains can be seen dripping from his hollowed-out skull when Victor lifts him up.
And here's a fun fact: it's made clear that Henrich was suffering from syphilis, and what's one of the main symptoms of syphilis? A weakened skull bone. Ewww.
