9. Mary Angela Laura Crane - Return to Silent Hill
Return to Silent Hill is a film that makes a whole lot of questionable decisions, and that's without even getting into the many pointless deviations filmmaker Christophe Gans decided to take from the source material he apparently loves.
Surely the most unintentionally hilarious change Gans makes occurs when protagonist James (Jeremy Irvine) visits his late partner Mary's (Hannah Emily Anderson) grave and her full name is revealed to be "Mary Angela Laura Crane."
As in, the characters of Mary, Maria, Angela, and Laura - the former three of whom are all played by Hannah Emily Anderson - are revealed to be the same person, or rather, figments of James' imagination based on Mary's personality.
It's an absolute head-scratcher of a twist, taking characters who were distinct in the video game source material and pointlessly conflating them.
Naturally the reveal was met with as much laughter as outright rage from fans, who might be finally prepared to admit that the Silent Hill movies desperately need to move on from Gans.
