1. The Killer Is A Sidney Fangirl - Scream 7
Scream 7 has received by far the worst reviews of the series and with generally good reason, not least because of how utterly, puzzlingly off the rails it all goes in the third act.
The ringleader of the three Ghostface killers this time around is revealed to Sidney's (Neve Campbell) peppy neighbour Jessica (Anna Camp), who mustered up the courage to kill her abusive husband after reading Sid's autobiography.
Basically, Jessica is a Sidney fangirl who was disappointed that Sid wasn't present during the New York City attacks of Scream VI, and so decided to create a new Final Girl by killing Sidney in front of her daughter Tatum (Isabel May), just as Sid was traumatised by her own mother's murder.
As killer motives go it's incredibly messy, exacerbated by Jessica's contrived, cockamamie scheme, conspiring with mental institution employee Marco (Ethan Embry) to trick Sidney into believing that original killer Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) was possibly still be alive.
It's exactly the sort of WTF outcome you get when filmmakers are forced to pivot mid-development. Needless to say, the already-confirmed Scream 8 will need to try a little harder than this.
